2020 NFL Season Proposal

As a sports fan, I have missed the enjoyment of following my favorite sports, teams, and players, as well as the entertainment that they provide through competition. Although it was interesting to watch World Series games from the 1990s on FOX for a while, I was looking forward to the day when real sports that I actually care about (not golf) could start back up. I have been watching to see how the professional leagues of my three favorite sports – basketball, baseball, and football – would handle the respective opening (or re-opening) of their seasons during the same approximate time frame.

With Major League Baseball’s recent coronavirus outbreak among the Miami Marlins only three days into their season, and with the St. Louis Cardinals now also experiencing positive tests, I’m concerned not only that MLB will have to shut down their season very soon, but that the National Football League (NFL) will not be able to play their season either. While it might be too late for baseball, I’ve decided to focus on football for this post. I would like to make the following proposal to the NFL, which, if they actually read and consider this, could save football this year.

Office Olympics

In an alternate timeline where everything had remained normal this year, the sports world would currently be enjoying the opening weekend of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Although the games have not been cancelled at this point, but rather postponed until 2021 (hopefully that is still able to happen), these Olympics were supposed to be taking place right now. And although baseball is now back with its empty stadiums and piped-in crowd noise, it’s not quite the same. We’re still missing the swimming, track and field, gymnastics, beach volleyball, table tennis, and all the other sports we pay attention to every four years because NBC tells us to. Fortunately, I still can still watch some version of the Olympics, since I have The Office Season 2 on DVD, which contains the episode Office Olympics.

Good news, everyone! At long last, here comes another blog post on this site!

“It’s about time!” I can hear you saying. “It’s been over a month since you have last posted on here, and I demand more frequent reading material and entertainment to get me through the drudgery of my COVID life! What have you been doing for the last month?”

Well, sorry to disappoint my loyal readers, but I have never put pressure on myself to post at a certain frequency level. And after going back to the office for the past month (and no, I don’t mean I’ve spent the past month in the office 24-7, I’m just no longer confined to working from home), I have spent less time sitting on my red couch at home doing nothing. Still some, just…less. Don’t worry though, this blog isn’t going anywhere. I’ll still post on here at a yet-to-be-determined frequency, so keep checking back here periodically for updates.

When I originally started this blog, before showing it to anyone else, I asked for suggestions from my ~~editor-in-chief~~ unofficial and unpaid blog consultant. At the time, it literally had the name Blog. She told me, “You might want to give it a fun name other than Blog.” Also, knowing my long-running refusal to join Facebook, she told me, “This is like you’re on Facebook.” At that moment, the idea was born for the name of my blog, Better Than Facebook. So, I decided to devote some time here to explain exactly why this blog is better than Facebook. Also, since I’m a fan of top ten lists, and with apologies to David Letterman, I’m going to give you a list of the top ten reasons why this blog is better than Facebook.
